At the "Root Cellar" we have a large library resource
which is available for individuals, to help with their research. We have
both a lending section and a reference only section. We have just
completed a reorganisation of the library and have decided to publish
the library list on the website. Click on this link to open the
Library List to view or print the list as
you wish.
We also have a very large library of micro fiches and
films at the Root Cellar which are also available for individuals to use
at the Root Cellar, to help with their research. The list of these
resources will shortly be available on the website.
Please note that you require

Now available on CD - "Remarkable
Occurrences and Interesting Dates". This book was first issued
in 1890 and was a sort of "readers digest" of its day. Based mainly on
the Penistone area, but it also contains information about the
surrounding areas, Holmfirth, Huddersfield, Ingbirchworth etc. his
includes places of worship at Penistone, Oxspring, Thurlestone and
Bullhouse, railway accidents both locally and further afield, lists of
long lived local people and much more. Our computer data co-ordinator,
Peter Middleton has now completed the transference of the book
onto CD, and it is available for purchase from Publication Sales, or at
the Root Cellar, priced at £10.00.
The Library Sessions and Workshops.
The series of workshop sessions being held at various
libraries in and around Kirklees have continued well. These ar primarily
designed for beginners but using the technology available at the
libraries, the structure becomes more flexible and we have been able to
demolish some fairly substantial brick walls.
We are very pleased to be able to announce that there is a move in Kirkburton, to establish a local family history interest group, holding regular meetings based at the local library and supported by H&DFHS, particularly Alan Stewart-Kaye. The first meeting is on Thursday 4th December 6.00 to 8.00 pm at Kirkburton Library. We hope that more will follow.
