Welcome to our Website

The society was formed in 1987 and is for all those who are interested in genealogy and family history. Our members include people who live locally, in and around the area of Kirklees and Huddersfield, but also nationally and around the world.

On the website, we have pages of interesting facts and information about our local townships, parishes and their churches. Surnames and their frequencies on the 1841 and 1851 census’, plus many more. So whether you are a longstanding member of the Society or just browsing, we hope that you will find something in our very many pages, to interest you.

We have a large and very active team of volunteer’s who work with the society, helping with a variety of things such as transcribing parish register’s, helping at one or more of our many library sessions, or helping out at the “Root Cellar”, to name just a few, and the committee would like to thank all our volunteers who, like the committee members, give their time freely. We are always in need of more volunteers and anyone wishing to offer some of their time, would be most welcome.

For those of you who are completely new to us, we hope you find navigating around the site easy, informative, and productive and we hope you are encouraged to come back and perhaps join our society. In either case, thank you for your visit and we hope to see you soon.

The website is currently being modified and improved, however most of the initial planned changes to the website are now complete and we would like to thank Nicky from www.littlereddogdesign.net, for her work. Changing the main pages to HTML has proven to be a mammoth task, but does now mean that we can quickly amend these pages to ensure the information is as up to date as is practically possible. However, should you experience any problems navigating this site, or need a few pointers, or even have any suggestions about the content of the website, please contact the Webmaster.
